Keeping Japantown Clean, Safe & Thriving
The Japantown Community Benefit District (JCBD) plays a vital role in enhancing the vibrancy and sustainability of San Francisco's historic Japantown. Funded through a dedicated assessment on district property owners, the JCBD undertakes a multifaceted approach to improving the neighborhood. This includes enhancing cleanliness and safety, supporting local businesses, and actively marketing and promoting Japantown as a unique cultural destination. By showcasing the district's rich history, diverse offerings, and vibrant community, the JCBD strives to attract visitors, foster economic growth, and ensure the long-term vitality of this cherished San Francisco landmark.
Japantown is home to over 200 small businesses, 2 hotels, 12 non profit organizations and 15 Legacy Businesses. Anchored by the Peace Pagoda, a gift from the people of Japan, it leads visitors into the Japan Center Malls and adjoining Kinokuniya mall. Enter through the Japantown Gate and see the remarkable creations of renowned artist, Ruth Asawa. Japantown is a destination and an important cultural hub for the Japanese community
